Who benefits: My project will benefit first-time visitors, city of Milton staff, families, and regular visitors.

Why the project is needed: Lakhapni Preserve currently faces 2 major problems: a lack of visitor information and no central information point. First-time visitors get lost due to the confusing trails and no clear maps of the park. The lack of visitor information significantly declines the overall experience of the hike. The second problem is a lack of a central information point. Central information points can be vital in a park because it gives park staff a place to post community announcements, rules, and emergency numbers.

Purpose of the kiosk: The kiosk improves the visitor experience because it removes confusion, allowing first-time visitors to enjoy their hike without having to worry about getting lost.

Construction details: The kiosk will be made out of wood with an A-frame corrugated metal roof. It will feature a tackable board to post community announcements.

Long-term impact: This project is designed to serve the city of Milton for a lifespan of 15 to 20 years. The use of pressure- treated lumber, galvanized anti-corrosive fasteners, adn industrial- grade sealants ensures the frame remain resitant to wood rot, fungal decay, and weather warping. The structural design will make it so it requires minimal maintenance.

Community Value: The kiosk does more than guide hikers. It promotes active, healthy lifestyles by making trails easier to access. It turns the preserve into an outdoor classroom for local ecosystems and conservation. A dedicated space for municipal notices and volunteer events also strengthens civic engagement.

Specific: The primary face shows a color-coded topographic map with trail junctions, mileage, elevation, and difficulty ratings. A safety panel lists GPS coordinates, park rules (hours, leash laws), and emergency contacts. The secondary face is a community board: trail-yield guides, flora/fauna infographics, and a City of Milton section for volunteer days and announcements.

Leadership: This was a multi-phase project, not a simple build. As project manager, I led stakeholder talks with city officials, secured permits, and designed the structure's specs. I managed material sourcing, set the budget, and built the safety plan. On-site, I supervised and trained a volunteer crew of peers and scouts through leveling, concrete work, and timber assembly.
